Breaking News - Randy Moss Traded To Vikings For Third Round Pick
Randy Moss‘ improbable return to Minnesota is about to become reality.
The Vikings and the Patriots have agreed to a blockbuster trade that will send Pro Bowl wide receiver back to Minnesota for the Vikings’ 2011 third-round pick on Wednesday, an NFL source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
When the trade is completed, the Patriots will have two picks in each of the first four rounds of the 2011 draft — their own picks and a first-round pick from Oakland, a second-round pick from Carolina, the third-round pick from the Vikings and a fourth-rounder from Denver.
To say this is a blockbuster deal is an understatement. Trades, especially mid-season trades, don’t happen in the NFL like they do in other sports. Add in the fact that we are talking about one of the best wide receivers in all of football and this one blows any past trade out of the water.
This is not a simple wide receiver for a draft pick trade though. There’s more to this story. It’s not trading Randy Moss because he only caught 4 passes in the last 3 games. This is trading Randy Moss because he complained publicly about a new contract after week 1 and has become a locker room pariah since then. That’s the only logical explanation here, and when you look at it from that point of view, this trade makes a whole lot of sense. Trading a disgruntled Randy Moss makes way more sense than keeping a disgruntled Randy Moss. We’ve seen disgruntled Randy Moss in Minnesota and Oakland, he’s not the same player.
So that has to be what is going on here. Belichick saw an unhappy Hall of Fame wide receiver and decided to cut ties. Will it hurt the on field Patriots this year? Yes. Are the Vikings now going to be the favorite to win the NFC North? In my opinion yes. But like with all trades, final judgement should be reserved for a later date.
PS
Drafting Brady in all my fantasy leagues doesn’t look so hot now does it? Fuck.
hey fat bastard…the Pats would only get a 5th round Comp pick if they let Randy walk after the season. He has been in the league for more than 10 years….look it up. So the 3rd is better than the 5th…
Its a change in offensive philosophies. Bill now has trust in the running game so the pats go more brady under center and only 2-3 WR which the pats won back in the day on. Its not the end of the season but rather reflects the change in strategy. TB12 does not need moss. The only shitty thing from the trade is that if moss played out the season with the pats and lost him to free agency we would have gotten a 3rd round compensatory pick. So whats the point on trading him now if we end up in a similar situation. Moss gone does not make the on the field team better, but might create a team that becomes closer. Chemistry is underrated. BTW Troy Brown reports moss was causing mad problems on the plane ride back from Miami. Guess he wore out his welcome. Its not a season lost beacuse moss is gone, just terrible value on the return if we were going to get a 3rd for letting him play anyways.
Still makes more sense to keep him for the rest of the season and get that compensatory pick than it does to trot out some no-name rookie.
au’ contrere my foolish fellow commenters. while the trade may appear rash, keep in mind the following. the pats only traded a 4th rd pick for moss to begin with. if he was to be gone after this season (which was quite likely) they not only rec’d a great deal of on-field production, but a 3rd round pick back for him. not bad. also keep in mind that the pats now have two picks in each of the first 4 rounds of next yrs draft, two of those picks belong to carolina (2nd rd) and the raiders (1st rd). also not bad. they’ve shown that they can win wihout him, on the road in miami which has always been a tough place for them to win. interested to see how the rest of the year plays out.
what a waste of brady’s talent. Franchise qbs dont grow on trees. Ask any bears fan that.
Do we see a return to the Brady of old, when he would spread the ball around to many different targets?
Dumb move by the Pats. At some point winning now is more important than chasing years down the road. We’re all going to die in 2012 anyway.
Bah, Jerry Angelo would have given next year’s whole draft AND the 2012 first round pick for Moss. . . if he played D-Line.
